What Working With a Sleep Consultant Is Actually Like
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re tired.
Like really tired.
You may have Googled “baby sleep help” at 2:00 a.m., wondered if you’re doing something wrong, or gone back and forth about whether hiring a sleep consultant is even worth it. For many parents, the idea brings up a lot of mixed emotions—relief, guilt, hope, and hesitation all at once.
So let’s take the mystery out of it. Here’s what working with a pediatric sleep consultant is actually like.
It Starts With a Conversation, Not a Commitment
The first step is a free 15 minute discovery call. This is a low-pressure conversation where we talk through what’s going on with your baby or toddler, what you’ve tried so far, and what your goals are.
There’s no obligation to move forward. Sometimes parents realize they just need reassurance or a small tweak. Sometimes they decide now isn’t the right time. And sometimes they finally feel seen and ready for support. All of those outcomes are completely okay!
This call is about clarity, not convincing.
The Intake Questionnaire: Getting the Full Picture
If we decide to work together, the next step is a detailed intake questionnaire. This is where I really get to know your child and your family.
I ask about things like:
Your child’s age, temperament, and current sleep patterns
Feeding routines and night wakings
Nap schedules and wake windows
Your comfort level with different approaches
What matters most to you
This is how your sleep plan becomes personalized. No copy and paste schedules. No generic advice. Just a thoughtful, individualized approach based on real information.
Your Personalized Sleep Plan
Once I have all the details, I create a customized sleep plan tailored specifically to your child and your parenting style.
Sleep training is not one-size-fits-all. Some families prefer a very gradual approach, others want something more direct, and many fall somewhere in between. My role is to guide you toward a plan that is developmentally appropriate, realistic, and something you can actually stick with.
You’ll receive clear, step by step guidance so you’re not guessing what to do at bedtime, during night wakings, or when naps don’t go as planned.
There’s no expectation of perfection, just consistency and support.
Daily Support Is Where the Real Change Happens
This is the part families often say makes the biggest difference.
During our time together, you receive daily support. That means we’re checking in regularly, reviewing how things are going, and making adjustments in real time. If something feels off, we troubleshoot it together. If your baby throws you a curveball (because babies always do!), you’re not left wondering if you should push through or pivot.
Sleep is emotional, especially when you’re exhausted. Support isn’t just about schedules, it’s about having someone in your corner.
What Progress Really Looks Like
Sleep progress isn’t always linear. Some nights are better than others. Some days feel easier than expected, and some feel harder.
Progress might look like:
Longer stretches of sleep
A smoother bedtime routine
Fewer night wakings
Easier naps
A more rested, confident parent
The goal isn’t perfect sleep. It’s meaningful, sustainable improvement that works for your family long-term.
Wrapping Up and Moving Forward
At the end of our time together, we review progress, make any final adjustments, and talk through next steps so you feel confident continuing on your own.
You’re not left with a rigid plan or a “good luck” goodbye. You leave with understanding, tools, and the confidence to respond to your child’s sleep needs moving forward.
If You’re Still On the Fence…
I get it. Asking for help with sleep can feel vulnerable. You don’t have to decide anything today!
Sometimes a simple conversation is enough to help you feel clearer and more confident, whether we work together or not. If you’re curious, I’d love to chat and see what support might look like for your family.
You don’t have to do this alone.
